HandyVan Scheme in Buxton
Being independent is important to all of us, and staying independent becomes more of an issue as we get older.
Help the Aged in Buxton operates a Handyvan service in conjunction with Derbyshire County Council and High Peak Borough Council. The service aims to help older people feel more secure in their own homes, to reduce the risk and fear of burglary and so provide peace of mind.
The agency who supplies the Handyvan service is Walbrook Care & Repair and the work is government funded. They provide and fit, free of charge, a range of security products in client's homes, as well as undertaking general repair and maintenance work.
You may be eligible for help under the Handyvan scheme in Buxton if you are:
- Aged 60 or over
- A homeowner or tenant of a private landlord
To qualify for the Handyvan, you must also be in receipt of:
- Means Tested Benefits
- Attendance allowance
- Disabled Living Allowance
- Industrail Injuries Disablement
- War Disablement Pension
- Incapacity Benefit
Some of the jobs the Handyvan scheme covers are:
- Installation (free) of safety and security products
- Clean gutters and repair leaking joints
- Renew light bulbs and flourescent tubes
- Deal with cracks to concrete paths
- Small plumbing jobs
- Small joinery jobs
