Divided into 7 sections,
Help the Aged undertakes social research to help them understand the needs and issues surrounding older people; everything from housing needs and winter, cold weather hardships to basic footcare. They campaign locally, regionally and nationally to bring about changes in government policies and practices that adversely affect older people.
They offer help and advice on a range of issues from pensions to council tax, and are entirely self funded through retail sales, legacies, private donations and gifts, grants and events sponsorship.
Help the Aged shops are a vital source of income for the charity. There is chain of around 360 shops in the UK, and the one in
Buxton is in Spring Gardens. They will accept your unwanted, good quality clothes, books, bric-a-brac and videos as well mobile phones and used toner and ink cartridges.
For mobile phones the charity receives at least £5 for each phone donated and all the parts from the phone are recycled if the phone itself can't be used. Nothing goes into landfill.
For ink and toner cartridges the charity can receive between 25p and £4. It takes 1.5 pints of oil to make one toner cartridge so by donating used ones we're not only reducing landfill, we're preserving resources too.
